Outdoor Lighting

December 21, 2005

Even though daylight hours linger longer than usual during the spring and summer, why enjoy your garden only when it's light out?
You have put a lot of energy and effort into designing and creating your gorgeous garden, so why not get as much out of it as possible? You can do just that by adding some simple lighting.

Wouldn't it be delightful to sit outside on a calm, cool evening and be enveloped by the fruits of your labor? Maybe you are worried about your electric bill going up, so you forego garden lighting. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn about the different ways you can add the perfect lighting to your garden, set a mood, and transform the garden into an outdoor living area where you can relax or entertain. You will soon have a great space to invite friends for a visit, or to plan a barbeque or cocktail party, and it won't cost nearly as much as you think.

One way to bring soft light to the garden is by stringing miniature Christmas lights throughout. Tiny white lights will not only add a lovely sparkle and make your garden even more enchanting, they are also made for outdoor use and they do not use a lot of electricity. For brighter light, use large Christmas bulbs.

Candles are another way to not only add light, but to also add ambiance. Some candles even keep insects away. A cozy candlelit conversation in the garden is the perfect way to unwind after a long day. You might even decide to serve dinner for two, or share a bottle of wine in the garden on an especially nice evening. If the breeze is too strong for candles, try hurricane lamps.

Another idea is to use solar lights. There will be an initial investment, but many different styles of solar lights and lanterns are quite reasonable. Since they do not require electricity, they should pay for themselves in no time at all. The best part is solar lights create a soothing glow by using contained sunlight, collected during the day.

With the many varieties of reasonably priced, cost efficient, outdoor lighting sources available today, there is no reason that you cannot enjoy a twenty-four hour garden. After investing so much tender care into creating your garden, you should have the opportunity to enjoy it anytime.
